Have you ever tried to explain what a drum and bugle corps is? It’s kind of a cross between a marching band and the Chicago Symphony. Or how much work it takes to present the performance quality the Madison Scouts give? Picture putting in over 850 hours to perfect one ten minute performance. Or what it costs to run a top twelve drum corps? A top twelve drum corps will have a budget between $650,000 and $1.2 million annually.
Since 1938, the Madison Scouts have entertained crowds worldwide while giving members the opportunity to achieve personal and performance excellence, sharing in a unique fraternal experience. The 135 members come from all over the world, as well as from Madison itself.
The Madison Scouts were founded in 1938 and celebrate 68 years of continuous operation in 2006. They are one of the oldest and most successful drum corps in the history of the activity. Throughout the years, the Madison Scouts have combined an exciting educational and developmental approach designed to give each member the opportunity to achieve personal and performance excellence while sharing in a unique fraternal experience. The Corps has also established an admirable tradition of consistently presenting innovative, challenging, and exciting programs designed to communicate with and entertain each and every person who views the Madison Scouts. They have been Drum Corps International Championship Finalists for 32 years since 1973.
The Corps will travel over 15,000 miles while appearing in nearly 20 states and provinces. The Madison Scouts have twice toured Europe and performed in France, Germany, Holland, and England and participated in the 2004 DCI Tour of Champions.
The purpose of the Adopt-A-Scout program is to create financial support for Scouts while giving you the opportunity to be a part of this great organization. While the funds will go into general support for the entire organization, you will be personally adopting a specific marching or staff member. You will receive letters from that member so that your can experience, through his or her eyes, what it means to be a Madison Scout.
You will also receive a stock certificate honoring your ‘ownership’ of the 2006 field show "Primal Forces", as well as a special commemorative Adopt-A-Scout pin.
You can adopt a member by name, by section or even by instrument number.
The cost to Adopt-A-Scout is:
$100 Marching Member
$150 Staff Member
$250 Corps Director—Sal Salas
