Brat Fest 2010

There are so many performers and performing groups that deserve to be on the stages at Brat Fest, but we are limited in terms of days, numbers of stages and times. With two stages, we can fill 80 hours. Until we determine how to fit a third stage, that is what we have to work with.

We break our stages into four areas: musical groups, community groups, sessions and headliners. All of these performers have to either draw a crowd (like Madison County does so well), or keep the crowd (like Masino did this year). Either is okay, but both is best.

Headliners are selected by Midwest Family Broadcasting, with input from our Foundation and the other groups responsible for Brat Fest (Madison Festivals, Inc., Purple Door Productions and Metcalfe sentry). Headliners are responsible for drawing crowds.

Musical groups provide a variety of music and entertainment, and perform strictly because they love to perform, they want to give back to the community through the charitable fundraising we do with Brat Fest, and they get exposure through the Brat fest CD, stage time and Brat Fest publicity. Even giving each group only 60 minutes to perform, we can only get 50-60 groups on stage. That forced us to think differently.

Sessions are our version of an event within an event. By creating a theme, such as RockFest at BratFest, we can involve 8-9 different bands in Brat Fest and do it all in 2 1/2 hours. This allows us to create a very different experience for the bands and the Brat Fest community.

In 2010, we are considering running eight different sessions, or events within an event. To learn more, click on 'Event Within An Event and share your thoughts with us.

Community groups are an area that we want to expand again, but were not able to accomodate in 2009. We need a different staging area for dance teams and other large groups. This is a work in progress.

Tentatively, we are looking at four (4) headliners, eight (8) event within an event sessions and forty (40) individual groups. In addition, we want to expand to sixteen (16) emcees to keep the crowds entertained during set changes.

Please give us your thoughts.
