The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County is partnering with Madison Youth Performing Arts Foundation and the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps to coordinate the D.R.U.M. Program.  D.R.U.M. stands for Diversity, Respect and Unity through Music. This program gets area youth from disadvantaged circumstances involved in a program of music and performance training through a positive environment that emphasizes character, social development, leadership, self-discipline and the pursuit of excellence.

Concepts focus on using rhythm to improve communication skills, listening skills, diversity awareness, understanding and respect.  This program will be an interactive experience, where everyone’s contribution counts and where everyone is valued.  The D.R.U.M. Program :

> Encourages children to participate in their own way

> Builds confidence through positive experiences

> Supports leaning through exploration

> Celebrates students’ diversity and uniqueness

> Encourages healthy peer relationships, inclusion and appreciation

> Promotes cohesiveness and cooperation

> Helps the development of social skills such as listening, supporting and sharing

> Engages children to solve problems and create meaningful experiences

> Reveals how students can feel and communicate ideas and emotions through sound and music.

> Discover the joys of creating their own music through exploration, play and active participation.

> Learn the principles of music in a fun, exciting setting

> Develop better social skills, such as sharing, listening and cooperation.

> Experience multiple avenues of expression.
